If you enjoy parading with lights, singing carols, and general winter-tide shenanigans, please join us on December 23rd from 4 ~ 8PM in ye olde towne of Lostine for a festive circuit of olde-schoole Wassailing!
Did you know that traditionally, the purpose of caroling was to bless the all-important apple orchards of northern Europe? The word WASSAIL is from the old English wæs hæil, which means ‘be in (good) health!’ The traditional response to a call of “wassail!” is “drink hail!” (“a drink to your health!”).
Wassailling involves singing; toasting; making merry; demanding figgy pudding at the doorways of the lords and ladies; and making offerings in orchards in the winter to bless and protect next year’s crop. Join us!
